A page from the personal diary of Indrani Haldar
I was only 15 when I faced the camera for the first time. I was shooting for a Bengali serial called Tero Parbon. I had really long hair then but I had to cut it for the role. Till date I remember how much I cried. Furthermore, I did not want to become an actor but when I faced the camera for the first time I felt ecstatic. It’s been so many years since I have been acting and even today I feel the same amount of nervousness and excitement.
I lost my dad at a pretty young age. When I was shooting for Rituparno Ghosh’s film Dahan, my dad was really ill. I told him about my scenes and shots, and he used to tell me, “God knows if I will be alive to see your movie.” Dahan released and I won a National Award for my performance. But my dad was gone. I regret that he was not there to enjoy and share my success.
Furthermore, I have acted in so many Bengali films and serials. I have grown as an actor. But only after I took up the role in Maryada, I gained not only national but international recognition. People actually love my character and can relate to it.
I have been away from Kolkata for a long time now. But in the coming year I shall do Bengali films along with Maryada. Thank you all my fans for loving me and please keep supporting me in the future as well.
