Court declines prosecution's 'driving license' request in Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case

Salman Khan
In some temporary relief to Salman Khan, the Sessions Court today rejected the prosecution's plea seeking a direction to be issued to the actor to produce his driving license dating back to 2002 at the time of the accident. During the last hearing, the prosecution had filed an application to this regard which was opposed by Salman's lawyer. It was stated in the application that Salman had no license when his car ran over people sleeping on the pavement on 28 September, 2002 killing one person and injuring four. As per the prosecution, Salman obtained a driving license only in 2004 as per RTO records. However, Salman has denied that he was behind the wheels on that ill-fated night. Through his lawyer, he has also disputed the RTO record. His lawyer argued that the application was not maintainable under the Motor Vehicles Act. The actor has denied that he was driving the car at the time. He has also disputed the RTO record. His lawyer, Srikant Shivade, opposed the prosecution's application today, saying it was not maintainable under the Motor Vehicles Act. The court accepted Salman's lawyer's submission and rejected the prosecution application. Salman, we are sure, will breathe easy in view of this temporary relief granted.
