A rape allegation, whether true or not, can sound the death knell of an actor’s career. Shiney Ahuja is a glaring example. While some like Madhur Bhandarkar came out unscathed, a rape case often drags on for years making life miserable for the accused. Even as Inder Kumar languishes inside the lock-up for a crime he may or may not have committed, his distressed wife Pallavi Kumar Sarraf, who is also a mother to a young daughter, is running from pillar to post to help her husband, who she is believes is innocent. Pinning the blame on the girl, Pallavi states that her husband is being framed by the fraudster and cops too are being negligent in their investigation. “Inspite of court’s order, they didn’t allow me to give Inder home cooked food and medicines,” said Pallavi. Speaking exclusively to Tellychakkar.com over the phone, Pallavi narrated her version of facts which she believes is the real truth. Here’s producing it verbatim and in first person. “My husband first met this girl early this month at Gold’s gym where he works out. She approached Inder and introduced herself as an actress and said that she had a movie opposite Ali Zafar. She then stated that she could not afford one more month of gymming and since my husband is a fitness enthusiast she requested him to train her. Inder, in good faith, agreed to train her and told her that she would have to come to our home for training as she wouldn’t have been attending the gym anymore. He also told her that training would only be possible if I granted him the permission. Inder then called me up and told me, “Pallavi there is this girl who is financially broke right now and she needs help. So can I get her home in your presence and instruct her in fitness.” I said okay, after all, it’s humanity to help someone who is in need, right? The girl then arrived at our place the next day and she was continuously referring to Inder as ‘Sir’. And that was the first time when I spoke to her and asked her about her antecedents. She told me that she’s from Chandigarh and been staying in Mumbai for the last two years. She claimed that she had just landed a project which will be starting next month and told ‘Agar Inder Sir ka help mil jaata hain, toh bahut accha hoga’. I told her no problem, please make yourself at home and for any help you need, Inder is there. Now when she came for training the next day, I found something fishy. Inder was busy telling her the diet that she should follow and the exercises that she should do to stay fit. Now this girl instead of listening and following started back answering and questioning why she should be doing it. I found that fishy because when you have approached someone who knows a thing or two about fitness, why will you contradict that person. Once she left, I told Inder that if someone is determined and is really being launched then she will not say or behave in this fashion. She will never say that I will not eat this or that. So I asked my husband to keep away from this girl and Inder too agreed to the same and started avoiding her. After two days passed, the girl tried calling Inder and he avoided her again by saying he’s busy. Now I have access to Inder’s Facebook account and his Whatsapp. So I check both these things regularly for him. Now when I checked his phone, I saw Whatsapp messages from this girl which read, ‘I Love You,’ “I cannot live without you,’ etc. I didn’t respond to those messages. Then the next thing to arrive on Inder’s Whatsapp was gory pictures of her slit hand and then came a message which read, “What else should I do to get you to call me and talk to me? Please call me and talk.” When I brought this to Inder’s notice, he immediately called her up even though it was 1.30 at night. Inder tried to advise her and told her that he’s a married man and she shouldn’t be a housebreaker. This girl was fully drunk at that time. Shewas not ready to understand. Now there is an application in Xperia called 360 mobile security which has the option of blocking calls and messages. She had two numbers and I blocked her numbers. Inspite of that she kept on trying to call and message Inder but thankfully it went in to the reject list. The matter then died down after that day. Then after a gap of two or three days I found out Inder was not at home. Now let me tell you, in this film industry, if somebody is served on a platter, he falls for it. So when he was absent for two –three days, I realized something was fishy. So I packed my belongings and shifted to my mother’s flat which is on the first floor in the same building. So after three days, when Inder returned, I got to know that he was living at this girl’s place. Now something must have happened between these two. Inder must also have thought that this girl has feelings for him and gone to her. Every film related person does that. Some people manage to keep it discreet while others’ affairs become public. So Inder was at her place for those two-three days and her society knows it too. I then got to know her address and I went to her house on 22 April (2014). Inder was not there then as he was at my place. I met this girl and asked her what her problem was. I told her, “I know you had a fling with my husband for two-three days and you got exactly what you wanted. Now this has to stop.” She then told me that she didn’t know anything. “You go and take care of your husband. (Aap apne pati ko sambhalon. Main kuch nahi jaanti) He doesn’t stay here also.” I told her that we both know the truth so please stop this affair since my house is breaking. “You will have an affair with my husband for four days and then on the fifth day you will leave,” I told her. But she was not ready to accept the fact that Inder was with her for two days. But I have proof of the fact that Inder was with her and that she was lying. The building watchman himself saw Inder and told me that Inder is such a popular actor and he should not be coming here to visit her because it will affect his reputation. The watchman told me that the girl is known for sleeping around with many men. “That is her job. Before Inder was here, some other man used to stay with her. This is her main way of paying off all her bills,” said the watchman. He also told me that the society has not evicted the girl out because everything happens silently in her house and there is no public nuisance created. The watchman also asked me to make my entry in the visitor’s register so that there is proof of the fact that I visited this girl that day. Now after this episode, I started staying away from Inder. But before doing so I withdrew all the money from Inder’s account as I have his card. I did that because I knew that this girl would now force Inder into alcoholism. So to prevent him from buying alcohol, I withdrew all his cash leaving him penniless. Unfortunately, my worst fears came true. On 23 April, the girl called Inder to her flat but Inder flatly refused. Not the one to give up, she came to my flat because she knew Inder was alone as I was staying at my mother’s place. Now when she came everybody in my society saw her coming with bottles of alcohol. She started staying here and also went out of the house to buy stuff and food and the entire building witnessed this. Now she claims that Inder had kept her captive inside his house for two days. If that’s the case, then how was she able to go out? On 24 April elections were happening. That day Inder got completely drunk and that is when it stuck him that his wife and daughter have left him and he understood he is getting destroyed. So he told this girl, ‘Because of you my entire home has been destroyed. Now please go and get my wife because you have come on your own accord to my house and not vice-versa.” The girl however didn’t come. Now when she didn’t do it, Inder was in such a disturbed state that he took a glass piece and cut his wrist. Our entire kitchen was filled with blood. Seeing this the girl freaked out and she rushed to my place and said, “Please come and save your husband. He has cut himself. He is committing suicide.” I then told her, “What did you think? All this will be a piece of cake? Now if my husband dies, you will be the one to be blamed. So if you cannot handle it, run to the cops and tell them.” But instead of going to the cops, she again went back to Inder’s place. After 10-15 minutes, when I didn’t hear anything, I called in the cops. Police came in and I escorted them to Inder’s apartment and showed them the blood, my wounded husband and the state of the girl who was fully drunk. And I told the police to remove the girl from the place. But all my pleas fell on deaf ears and the police didn’t budge. The police then took both of them to police station. An inspector Deshmukh was there on duty that day. Inspector Deshmukh instead of taking action against this girl, he started advising me. He told me that if I don’t want to live with my husband then I should divorce him. I told him, “Whether my husband lives with one woman or four women is not my concern right now. My concern is my husband is dying and if he can try and kill himself then the girl who is staying with him right now, he can also kill the girl because he is not in his state of mind and nor is she. So if tomorrow if he does something to this girl; will you take responsibility? But the inspector instead rudely told me that they cannot do anything. Now this girl also gave a statement to the police that she is willingly staying with Inder. All this happened on the 24th. Now as per her claims, she was raped on 23rd and 24th. If all this were true, then when the police came knocking on the 24th why didn’t she tell them that she was raped? Then I came back from the police station with my mom while Inder and the girl were at the station. About half an hour after my departure, the police let go Inder and the girl. Now if you are of sane mind and irrespective of how good or bad your character is, after knowing that a suicidal attempt has happened, will you go back again to the same man? She came back smilingly with Inder back to our house as if nothing happened. The entire society saw it and they were amazed. She came back and stayed as if nothing had happened and when she left at night, the entire society saw her and she was extremely hale and hearty. There were no bruises, no cuts and she was wearing a heeled sandal and clean clothes while leaving our society. Now had she been raped, would she leave like that? Now I was getting worried about my husband as he had not received any medication at the police station. I called my family friend and actor Govind Namdeoji and told him about my worry. Govindji said, ‘Let’s call the police. At midnight, the cops came and they had to break down the door as Inder couldn’t open the door himself because he was dead drunk. The police conducted a search once again and they couldn’t find the girl. So when the girl was not there, how did rape happen? And can someone who can’t even open a door, rape a girl? The next thing we hear morning is that this girl has filed a complaint of rape and assault. Now who knows after leaving from our house at night where she went and what happened. No one knows.” Pallavi also sought to clear rumours about Inder using Salman Khan’s name to influence others. “Salman is God to my family. He has supported us all throughout in every manner, be it money, work and all other ways. He is God. I see him as my rakhi brother. Inder has never bragged about knowing Salman Khan or that I am in Salman’s gang nor has he every said that he can get anyone to meet Salman and give work in his films. I don’t know if Salman bhai has heard about this issue as he is shooting in Poland. He has not called me yet,” said Pallavi. Pallavi also refuted reports of any serious rift between herself and Inder. “We had a peaceful life. Yes there were fights but that is something that happens between every couple. Inder was an alcoholic at one point. Then with the help of Salman bhai, we took him off alcohol. And after our daughter was born, Inder changed for good. He is a terrific father. He was getting back on track and had also been offered a couple of movies. He was into fitness, taking acting classes from Govind Namdeo. We had a peaceful life and conflict used to arise only when Inder wanted to drink. He used to request me to allow him to drink a little but I was adamant. I thought of separating from him because of this girl who I saw was drawing him into his alcoholic ways again. If Inder had been in his senses, he would have thrown this girl out of his life. He is intelligent to do that. But then the girl smartly made him lose his senses by getting him drunk,” clarified Pallavi As of now, Pallavi is hopeful that Indian judiciary will deliver her justice and gearing up to apply for Inder’s bail on 30 April when the case will come for hearing in court.
