MUMBAI: Deepika Padukone, who will be next seen in Chhapaak and '83, graced the 21st Edition of Jio MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival on 13 October 2019. At the occasion, the actress opened up on playing different roles in her films.
Speaking about Cocktail movie's character Veronica, Deepika explained that she reread the script to understand why Imtiaz (Ali) thought that while she was drawn to Meera, she was actually ready for Veronica. She further added that it was Homi Adajania's sensibility toward this complex character that empowered her to play it. After a point she was spontaneous in her takes; Homi had just stopped directing her. Veronica helped Deepika shed her inhibitions both as a woman and as an actor and explore a side of her that she did not know existed.
Speaking about playing the nightmare scene from Chennai Express, Deepika said that her energy was completely off that day. She could see that Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty were not happy with her and they were wondering how to make it work. According to the actress, comedy roles are tricky, especially when there are many actors on different wavelengths. Deepika mentioned, "One can’t prepare for scenes like these. It just happens spontaneously. But at the end of the day whatever you do with conviction becomes honest".
