I don't support bans on films - Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan

The simmering issue of film censoring by the Censor board has irked many actors and filmmakers. Even the board's own members namely Ashok Pandit and Chandraprakash Dwivedi have come out in open about the over stringent censoring of films by the new censor board chief.

Aamir Khan too today expressed his concern at the excessive censoring of films happening in recent times. Said Aamir, "The word Censor board itself is wrong. CBFC is a body that is in existence to certify films. It's full form is Central Board Of Film Certification. It is not Central Board of Film Censorship. I believe in freedom of speech and expression as an actor. But then that shouldn't be misused. I can't use my freedom to murder someone."

Aamir also strongly opined that bans should never be slapped on films. "I am completely against all kinds of bans that are imposed on films," said Aamir.

For the moment, it is his film Dangal that has him completely occupied. Refuting talks about it being an offbeat film, Aamir said, "Dangal is a commercial film but then I as an actor don't think about commerce. It is the audience who makes it commercial."

Aamir who is beefing up for his role as a wrestler in Dangal also shared that he likes challenging himself time and again. "I enjoy doing challenging roles. I like giving audience a surprise every now and then through my films."

For the moment, Aamir is ready to be whisked off to an undisclosed location out of Mumbai by his wife Kiran Rao who has planned a surprise birthday celebration for him. The actor celebrated his birthday today with the media as has been custom.
