MUMBAI: On International Tea Day, Harleen Kaur Rekhi spoke about her love for tea and what makes it special for her. In a simple and honest reflection, Harleen described what she considers the perfect cup.
"Yes, definitely, I’m a tea person," she said. “I really like tea, and a perfect cup of tea — to me — means a bit more ginger, more milk, a pinch of cinnamon, some fennel seeds… basically, everything.” For Harleen, tea is more than just a drink. It’s something she enjoys making with care and attention to ingredients.
She added, “All those things we see in ads — licorice, ashwagandha, whatever — I’m totally up for it. Masala chai! I love that kind of spiced tea — strong, with a little extra milk and less water. That’s my idea of a perfect cup of tea.”
For Harleen, the setting matters too. “If the weather is just right — like a little rainy — then it’s absolutely perfect,” she said. Her words reflect a moment many people relate to: sipping tea while it rains outside.
International Tea Day, observed every year on May 21, highlights the role tea plays in cultures around the world. It also recognizes the work of people involved in tea production and the drink’s place in daily life.
Harleen Kaur Rekhi’s thoughts on tea connect with many who see tea as part of their routine. Her approach is simple: the right mix of ingredients, a familiar setting, and a quiet moment. On a day that celebrates tea, her words serve as a reminder of how personal and meaningful a single cup can be.
