My USP as a writer is originality and emotions when it comes to the content: Bahnishikha Das

MUMBAI: Bahnishikha Das, who has done the development and setup as a writer of Colors TV newly launched show Binddii, along with the story and screenplay, and has previously written shows like Ssshhhhh Koi Hai…, Bidaai, Ranbir Rano, Godh Bharaai, Mitwa, Gulaal, Doli Armaanon Ki…, Ashoka, Maharana Pratap, and Udaan, among others, feels she was born to write. She has not limited herself to just one genre or platform; she has explored horror and drama across all GEC channels and even ventured into OTT and films.

She said, “I would say my USP as a writer is originality and emotions when it comes to the content. And as far as my process is concerned, my USP is research and reading. I am full of stories from life around me, and I can take subtle pride in saying that I have so many stories that I can keep creating one after the other purely from observations of life around me—totally mine and original.”

“Understanding and dealing with emotions is another of my USPs, as I believe that as a writer one creates the best with a deep understanding of emotions. Whatever the genre of a story, core emotions never fail to evoke the required feelings, and I can say I am good at it. I can say so because I am aware of life around me and experience it observantly. Also, I am always reading about anything and everything that attracts my curiosity, and I have the ability to craft a story out of it all,” she added.

Apart from being a writer, she is also a producer. She has produced a Hindi film called Pinky Beauty Parlour under her banner Akshikha Entertainment, Co-founded by both her and her partner Director Akshay Singh. The movie, written and directed by Akshay, has been screened at almost 30 international film festivals. She said, “It has earned my production house respect and standing in the industry. I then went on to produce two web series, Assi Nabbe Poore Sau and Naam Gum Jaayega, both of which I have written too.”

Bahnishikha pointed out that she turned producer because of the stories she wants to bring to the world in all formats. She said, “I reached a stage in my career when I knew I was ready to take charge of my stories in all aspects. In fact, that is why I am currently in talks with most of the television GEC channels for creating and producing my stories, even as I continue to collaborate with other creators and producers for writing and shaping their stories.”

She is now trying to maintain a balance between being a writer and a producer. “For me, both will sometimes be interdependent and also separate. And I must say here that even as I enjoy being a producer and putting together projects—films, serials, web series, and everything—at the heart of it all I think I will remain a writer first,” Bahnishikha concluded.
