MUMBAI: When Shehzada Dhami bagged the character of the grown-up Param Singh Gill in Choti Sarrdaarni, he had huge expectations from this outing. He was excited about the opportunity as Param was one of the central characters in the family drama. However, his track didn’t shape up the way he wanted. The new story post the time leap of 16 years revolves around Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia and Mahir Pandhi. Unhappy with the graph of his character, Shehzada quit.

He also aspired to play the male lead in a TV show and waited for his turn. His patience has finally paid off. Shehzada has bagged the male lead in an upcoming show titled Shubh Shagun. He will be seen opposite Krishna Mukherjee of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein fame.

Talking about his role in the new show, he says, “Shubh Shagun is a love story. I play Shubh and my world revolves around my sister. Shubh dotes on his sister and can go to any extent to bring a smile to her face. The storyline is quite good and I am happy to be a part of it.”

The shoot is expected to commence soon. However, the journey to fulfilling his longstanding desire of playing the central character in a TV show wasn’t easy. Earlier this month, he was almost finalised to essay the grown-up Bajirai in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal. However, the deal fell through at the last minute and the makers roped in Rohit Chandel for the character.

Was he disappointed with how he was replaced overnight in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal? He replies, "Not at all. Koi baat nahi chalta rehta hai…life hai. Bohot cheezein hoti hain jo bohot kuchh sikha jaati hain. I have learnt that kal kuchh bhi ho sakta hai."

Shehzada, who came to Mumbai from Punjab three years ago, has worked hard on himself. “I have pursued theatre and have been a part of plays in Punjab. That’s been my training ground. I had difficulty speaking in chaste Hindi. But I worked on it and honed my craft. I aspire to become better,” he concludes.

Shubh Shagun is being produced by Smita Thackery under Rahul Productions and will be telecast on Dangal TV. Dangal TV launched a new show Rang Jaun Tere Rang Mein sometime back and has other shows on air like Crime Alert, Rakshabandhan... Rasal Apne Bhai Ki Dhal, Nath, Sindoor Ki Keemat, and Mann Sundar.
